Leela Thai on Silver Lake Boulevard is one of the best-kept secrets of "the Lower East Side of Los Angeles." They're cheap, they're delicious, and they have free delivery! The restaurant is also vegetarian-friendly.

The atmosphere here is light and airy, particularly if you sit outside. The restaurant is all windows and is right next door to Spaceland (a.k.a. hipster alternative rock heaven), so the people-watching is spectacular. If you're dining late, you may see Tim Roth, Beck or some other famous Silver Lake residents stroll by on their way to catch an up-and-coming band.

Try the Spring Rolls. Other delights are the Tantalizing Tofu, Bewitching Yellow Curry and a cool Beef Salad served in lime sauce. They also serve homemade Thai coconut ice cream.

Brightly painted, bedecked, with lucky elephants, and glowing like a beacon, inches away from Spaceland in the electric heart of Silver Lake, Leela Thai is charming and utterly unpretentious. The food is quite good, too, and generally served lightning fast by the gregarious staff, who have arranged Polaroids of neighborhood denizens all over the place, giving the establishment a homey-yet-exotic vibe. Open with a Thai iced tea, hot, crunchy spring rolls, and a pungent bowl of tom kha, and relax as you watch the world go by on Silver Lake Boulevard. Then dig in as if you mean it. Seafood is their specialty, with plenty of shrimp, squid, and spicy fish dishes on offer. The noodle dishes - especially the hearty and surprisingly sweet pad-see-ew - are among the best you'll find anywhere. Plenty of vegetarian fare is available as well, including sumptuous eggplant, broccoli, and asparagus dishes. If you've something special in mind (say, a bucket of peanut sauce), the cooks will do what they can to accommodate you. Lunch on the patio between 11:30am and 3pm., with specials at just $4.95; most other items range between $5 and $12. Free delivery is also available, but the presentation is better in person.

Locals and anyone near the Silver Lake are going to have a hard time staying away from or not being addicted to Leela Thai restaurant - the gingerbread house of Thai that serves up some of the most delicious Thai cuisine around.

This place is so good. If you live in the Silver Lake/Los Feliz area, you have no excuse for missing Leela Thai. All of their dishes are excellent, but the spring rolls can't be missed, and any of the pad thai and seafood dishes are very good. Also, the BBQ Chicken was surprisingly great, especially for the price. My favorite Thai food in town.

The food is always excellent and fresh. From the panang currie to spicy noodles. Everyone is friendly and as it sits on Silver Lake Blvd. near Effie, in the summertime you can sit outside on the patio with a great view. I have eaten Thai food all over the world and this is definitely in my top 5. If you love Thai food then this is a must stop for you.
